I want to be YOUR representative

It is official now. I have sent in the proper letters of intent and now, I am officially included in the elections for a representative position for our class on the medical student council. Elections shall be sometime after we return from spring break. Choosing who will be representing out class on the student council is one of the most important decisions we will ever make. It is much more important than any other decision you have made or ever will make. Much more important than deciding on your profession, your sole mate, and even what you will have for dinner. This is the real stuff folks, who do you want to lead your class, some pretty face with no sense of humor, or a really funny Armenian who acts like a really funny fake journalist named Borat, who pretends to be from the country of Kazakhstan. Foks, its a no brainer, and I am counting on all of your votes. So when the elections come you better vote for me, Ashot K, and you will be making the best decision in your life. But I am not only running for a medical student council rep position, I have also sent in a letter of intent to run for vice-president of the AMA. Those of you who are AMA members, I count on your votes. But more on that later. For now, I have included my letter of intent for medican student council that will be posted next to our lecture hall when we come back from break. But why wait, you can read it now, you won't regret it.

My name is Ashot K, and I intend to run for a second year representative position on the Medical Student Council. I wish to hold this position on the MSC because it will provide me the opportunity to work with the administration on key issues that are important for our class. I am also interested in working and developing relationships with students from other years because I believe this will help bring our voices together on important issues that can affect every class. Furthermore, I am interested in this position because it requires great leadership responsibility and will allow my voice to be heard on behalf of my class.

I have already had the pleasure of being a part of MSC, not as a representative of my class, but as chair on the financial aid committee. Having attended MSC meetings as well as the meetings for the financial aid committee, I believe I have the necessary qualifications and background experience needed to make a successful MSC representative for my class. I believe that my healthy relationship with my class qualifies me for this position as well. Over this first year of medical school, I have developed good relationships with a lot of my classmates and I have introduced myself to most. I believe most of my classmates know me or at least heard my random comments from the back row, during lectures. Those that know me well know me for being honest, trustworthy, understanding, creative, and peaceful. These are qualities that I believe are important to have for a person in a leadership position.

Most importantly, people say I am very funny. I take their word for it and I am glad they think so because I believe humor is an important necessity for a representative. After all, as Bill Cosby (a man I have often “emulated” for my classmates from the back row) so eloquently said “through humor, you can soften some of the worst blows that life delivers, and once you find laughter, no matter how painful your situation might be, you can survive it.”

I have the desire to put in the effort and work for anything that is important to my fellow students. I have the will to sacrifice my studying and personal time to making sure that the concerns of my fellow students are heard at the meetings of the Medical Student Council. Just because we worked so hard to get here and we have goals for our future careers, that doesn’t mean we should forget the present. We are here now and we will be here for the next three years whether we like it or not, and I want to be there for my fellow students, making sure that our present is not forgotten. Put your trust in me and I guarantee you will not regret it. Come on, do it!
